You all must be waiting eagerly for SSC CGL 2017 Notification, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), has officially announced the tentative dates / Schedule of SSC CGL 2017 Online Exam. But the exact dates, will be known only after the announcement of Notification, but still, we have estimated dates of SSC CGL 2017 Notification and Exams through SSC CGL 2017 annual calendar. 

It may be noted that SSC is unable to follow its tentative dates for SSC CGL exams or other exams conducted by SSC. So, its highly unpredictable to know the Exact dates of SSC CGL 2017 Exam  in advance.

This article is exclusively for the new comers in SSC CGL and other who missed SSC CGL 2016 exam and determined for SSC CGL 2017 examination.

Current Status : On 18th October, 2016, SSC 2017 Exam Calendar was announced and this calendar has the Tentative Schedule of All the SSC Exams to be held in 2017. As per the annual calendar of SSC for year 2017-18 it may be deduced that SSC CGL 2017 Official Notification is to be announced on 11th March, 2017 and SSC CGL 2017 Tier 1 (Prelims) exam can be conducted from June-July 2017.

About SSC CGL Examination.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a GOVT OF INDIA organisation to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.

The Commission holds Combined Graduate Level Examination, for recruitment to different posts for which a Graduation from a recognized University is the minimum requirement. The Examination will comprise of three Tiers written examination followed by Computer Proficiency Test/ Interview/Skill test, wherever applicable as per the Scheme of Examination notified.

Job Offered Through SSC CGL 2017

There are more than 30 post categories, for which you can apply and appear in the SSC CGL Exam. SSC CGL Offers primarily two types of Jobs.

1) Desk Job
2) Field Job.

1) Desk Job: This is one of the most sought after job for people, who love Home to Office and Office to Home routine. It offers, comfort for family and social life.

The various posts included as Desk Jobs are AAO, Statistical Investigators, Assistants in various ministries, Accountant, Auditor, tax Assistants etc.

2) Field Job: As, the name speaks, Filed job refers to all those jobs, where you have to work outside your Office Or visit the office only for short duration and spend most of the time on the field. These are adventurous, Uniform Jobs and involves city to city transfers.

Field jobs provide you an edge over the Desk Jobs, as these involve carrying out Raids, Inspections and surveillance.

The various jobs, that comes under the Field Job Category are : Inspectors in CBI, Sub-Inspectors, Examiners, Preventive Officers, central excise inspectors etc

Important Dates for SSC CGL 2017 Examination

In this section, we will discuss the Important Dates for SSC CGL Exam. The Dates, will be updates, tentatively, as and when the SSC Calendar for 2017-18 will be released, and will be updated exactly when the CGL Notification will be announced.

In the meantime, we are giving a tentative schedule by our selves, on the basis of the previous CGL Exams.

1) Date of CGL-2017 Notification: 11th March, 2017

2) Tentative Schedule of CGL-2017 Tier-1 Exam Date: 19th June to 2nd July, 2017.

3) SSC CGL 2017 Tier-2 Exam Date : 5th to 8th September, 2017.

4) SSC CGL 2017 Tier-3 Exam Date : 12th November, 2017.

5) SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam Date : December, 2017

From the above table, you can see, there is a huge variation in the Notification Dates, but common thing is that, Notification is mostly announced in Jan, Feb, and March. It was only in 2015, that Notification is announced in May, 2015.

Where to Find SSC CGL 2017 Notification

The most important part of SSC examination is that you must obtain an official Notification to know exact details of eligibility criterian, cut-off dates, physical standards and many more important things.
SSC gives you approx  One Month's time for registration of SSC CGL examination which can be done at the Official Website of SSC.

SSC CGL 2017 Notification can be obtained through the following ways.

1) Employment Newspaper : This is the Traditional way of getting the CGL Notification. Not only the CGL Exam, all SSC, UPSC and other Government Job Notifications are published in Employment Newspaper.

Employment news paper is a weekly, that is easily available at your local book stands or stationery shops. The Paper can be bought at a nominal price of only Rs 12/-. Hindi Version of Employment Newspaper is "Rozgar Samachar" is suitable for those with Non-English Background.

It is advisable that you should subscribe or get a Regular copy from your Local Bookseller, so that, you keep track of important Government Job Notifications in General and CGL 2017 is particular.

2) SSC Official Website: This the most convenient method to get the CGL Notification. Not only the Notification, information regarding the Exam Syllabus, Admit Cards is available on the SSC Website. Apart form this SSC Headquarter in New Delhi,  SSC has 8 Regional Offices, with each Office has its own website. 

When the Notification will be announced, it will be uploaded on the SSC Official Website and Regional Websites too.

Eligibility criterion For SSC CGL 2017 Exam

To apply for CGL 2017 exam, you should satisfy the below mentioned eligibility conditions.

1) Nationality : Foreigners and NRI cannot apply for CGL Exam, Only Indians can apply. So, you must be an Indian Citizen to apply for CGL-2017 Exam.

2) Age-Limit : As there are various posts in SSC CGL Exam, and as such is different age criteria for these posts.  Following is the age limit for as per CGL 2016 Notification, However according to latest Notice of DoPt it was published that SSC is going to revise the Age Limit for CGL Exams. The Revised Age Limit will be 20 years to 30 years, and this will come into effect from SSC CGL 2017. So, this is a very good news for all those, who are attaining the age of 28 or more in 2017 and they still can apply for CGL Exam, upto the age of 30 years.

(a) Statistical Investigator Gr II: Max 32 years
(b) Assistant in CSS / Tax Assistant(CBEC): 20 - 27 years
(c) Assistant in IB: 21 - 27 years
(d) Assistant Enforcement Officer / SI in CBI / SI in NIA: Max: 30 years
(e) SI in Central Bureau of Narcotics: 18 - 25 years
(c) All Other posts: 18 - 27 years

Age relaxation

SC/ST - 5 years
OBC - 3 years
Physically Handicapped (PH) - 10 years
PH + OBC - 13 years
PH + SC/ST - 15 years

Age relaxation is also available for applicants in certain additional categories: Ex-servicemen, Central Government Civilian Employees, and Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and who are not remarried.

Candidate should note that the Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate

However, the relaxations in the age limit, will be crystal clear only after the official notification of SSC CGL 2017.

3) Educational Qualifications: 

(i) Compiler: Graduation (Economics/Statistics/Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject).
(ii) Statistical Investigator Grade - II : Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level or Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
(iii) All other Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.

Physical Standards



Physical standards (Minimum)

  • Height 157.5 cms.
  • Chest 81 cms. (fully expanded with a minimum expansion of 5 cms.)
  • Height relaxable by 5 cms. In the case of Garwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and members of Scheduled Tribes
Physical Test

  • Walking: 1600 metres in 15 minutes.
  • Cycling: 8 Kms. In 30 minutes.


Physical standards (Minimum)

  • Height 152 cms.
  • Weight 48 Kgs.
  • Height relaxable by 2.5 cms; Weight relaxable by 2 Kgs. for Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese and Members of Scheduled Tribes
Physical Test
  • Walking: 1 Km. in 20 minutes.
  • Cycling: 3 Kms. in 25 minutes.



  • For men - 165 cms.
  • For women - 150 cms.
  • Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5 cms.
  • 76 cms with expansion (There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)
  • Eye-sight (with or without glasses):
  • Distant vision : 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
  • Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eye.

Selection Process and Exam pattern

Knowing the Selection Process is must, if you are going to appear in SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam-2017. The Selection Process comprises of following:

1) Tier-I Exam (Online Exam)
2) Tier-II Exam (Online Exam)
3) Tier-III (Descriptive Paper)
4) Tier-IV (Skill test /CPT)

Tier-1 Exam : This is the first stage of the exam and all those who have applied can appear for this Exam. The Structure of Tier-1 Exam is given as under

It is worth mentioning here that from 2016 , SSC had made some big changes in the pattern of Tier-1 Exam.

Some of the changes, that were made in Tier-1 stage are:

1) Tier-1 will be held through Online mode (computer based)

2) No. of questions reduced to 100 with each section has 25 questions

3) Time Duration is cut short to 75 minutes instead of 2 hours.

4) Negative marking for every wrong answer is 0.50 marks

Tier-II Exam: This is the 2nd Stage of the Exam. Only those, who pass the Tier-1 Exam and score marks with in the range of cut off marks, will be called for the Tier-II Stage.

Only change made in the Tier-2 stage, is that, the exam, will be conducted through online mode (Computer based)

Note: Paper-III for Statistics, will be only for those, who apply for Statistical Invigilator's Post,

3) Tier-3 and Tier-4: An additional Tier-3 and Tier-4 stages have been introduced, in the CGL Exam Pattern.

While Tier-3 tests your Writing Skills (Descriptive) and Tier-4 is meant to test your Data Entry Skills and Computer Efficiency

Final Merit: The Final Merit is prepared by candidates over all performance in the all the three tiers, viz Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3 separately.

How to Apply for SSC CGL 2017 Exam ?

This is serious and this is the most important to Know the Dates for submitting the online Application.

It is too early to comment, when the Online Registration, will start for CGL-2017 Exam. It is only after the announcement of SSC CGL 2017 Notification, that, we should know the Online Registration Dates, but SSC will give you ample time to apply for the exam.

Normally, the Registration Links, remain open for at least 30 days.

In 2017, the Online Registration for CGL Exam, will start from 11th March onward and the Last date to apply online is 15th April, 2017.

Online Application : To accommodate, huge rush of aspirants applying for CGL Exam, SSC had provided 2 websites for submitting the online application. You can submit your CGL application at any of these 2 websites

1) www.ssconline2.gov.in
2) www.sscregistration.nic.in

Once the registration dates are announced, we will share the Direct Link on this page for submitting the SSC CGL 2017 Online Application.

While Filling the Online Application form keep note of

1) You need to complete Part-1 and Part-2 of Registration to get your CGL Form accepted.

2) Before applying online, you should have Scanned copy of Photograph and Signature of specified size

3) You should also keep your Academic Details, ready with you, as these need to be entered in the online application form.

Application Fees: SSC is aspirant's favourite, as far as application fee is concerned. SSC charges only Rs 100 as application fees. Application fees can be paid either through online mode (Credit /Debit Card / Net Banking ) OR can be paid through challan in any SBI branch.

Moreover, there is No fee for Female candidates and applicants belonging to reserved categories.
